Funerals at St Peter’s

On the death of a loved one, and during this period of vacancy at St Peter's, please contact Paul Andrews, our Churchwarden, as soon as possible to begin arranging the funeral. Please use the Contact Us page.

You will also need to employ the services of a local funeral director who will liaise with us and take a lot of the burden of the arrangements off you the bereaved. Please do not confirm a funeral date with relatives until you have spoken with the funeral director and /or us.

Details of local funeral directors can be found online or in the local Roundabout Magazine.

We conduct the funeral of anyone with present or historic connections to the parish of North Tawton.

Funerals can be in church, at a local crematorium (usually Exeter) or at the graveside. Sometimes cremations are preceded or followed by memorial services in St Peter’s Church, usually one after the other on the same day. Funerals that include a cremation and a memorial service in church tend to have the church service as the main part of the funeral. Ashes are usually interred at a later date.

The churchyard at St Peter’s has been closed for burials for over 100 years. Any burials in North Tawton take place up Exeter Street at the Town Cemetery, a short walk from the church. Your funeral director will liaise with the Town Clerk to arrange the burial here.

We will do everything we can to help you say goodbye to your loved one.
