St Peter's Troupers...

St Peter’s Troupers began in 2012 with our first production, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Several other shows have been successfully staged since then – attracting audiences of hundreds of people. For some, it has been the first time they have stepped into St Peter’s church.

These productions bring together people from within and outside our churches and give everyone the opportunity to use their gifts and talents in performing, production, stage crew, front of house and many other areas that are essential for a successful show. Some have had previous experience, but for many it has been their first time on stage or back stage. Lasting friendships have been made and our group of churches have bonded together because of those friendships and because of working together as a team. We also have a lot of fun during rehearsals and at our reunions!

Several people have said that they have found gifts they didn’t realise they had, which has given them confidence in their everyday lives. The Troupers have proved to be a great outreach for our group of churches.

St Peter’s Troupers is open to everyone of any age. There will always be a big welcome!

Our most recent production Jesus Christ Superstar has certainly been a success in many ways.

A profit of £2050 was raised and divided between:

£150 to St Peter’s as a contribution towards heating costs.

£100 to North Tawton Community Primary School choir

£900 to Devon Air Ambulance

£900 to St Petrock’s, Exeter

There has definitely been a ‘buzz’ in the local community about the whole production.  Approximately 500 people in total attended the performances and the feedback has been quite amazing and continues to gather good feeling in the community.  Some of the cast have attended church for the first time and joined other church activities.

JCSS was emotional for many people who saw the show and there have been several comments of how it has made them think more about Jesus and the fact that he died in order to save us.  All 4 churches in the group played a part in the production whether on or back stage.  New friendships have been made. The care everyone had for each other played a major role in this production.

One comment worth noting from a kindly gentleman on his way out after the show:

I directed JCSS myself a couple of years back. We had 800 people a night and a 30 piece orchestra. But we didn’t get the amazing atmosphere that you have here in St Peter’s.

From me personally:   It was a pleasure and privilege to see so many people grow in confidence and in their faith. It has been an amazing journey for me and everyone involved.
